How to choose thickness of touch screen panels?
April 9, 2025
In the design of touch screen products, panel thickness is a seemingly simple but crucial parameter. Shenzhen Xinlilai Technology Co., Ltd has been producing touch screens for over 15 years. As a mature touch screen manufacturer, we often receive inquiries from customers about how to choose the thickness of touch screens. Today, this article will talk about the characteristics of touch screen panels with different thicknesses, as well as which application scenarios are suitable for different thicknesses.
Generally speaking, standard thickness touch screen panels are between 1.0-1.8mm, which is currently the most common specification on the market. This type of thick touch screen panel achieves a good balance between cost, strength, and weight, making it suitable for most consumer electronics products such as tablets, cash registers, etc. The 1.2mm standard thickness panels produced by our factory ensure sufficient structural strength and meet the needs of most application scenarios.
When a touch screen panel requires a thinner design, a 0.7-1.0mm thin panel comes in handy. This type of product is particularly suitable for weight sensitive devices, such as portable medical equipment or ultra-thin laptops. However, it should be noted that the decrease in thickness means that more precise manufacturing processes are required to ensure strength. We use special chemical strengthening technology to achieve the strength level of ordinary 1.2mm panels even for 0.8mm panels.
In some special application scenarios, such as industrial control equipment or outdoor information terminals, thicker panels of 2.0 millimeters or more may be required. Although this type of product may increase some weight, it can provide better impact resistance and environmental adaptability. The 2.5mm panel we customized for a certain oilfield equipment can maintain stable touch performance even in extreme environments of minus 30 degrees Celsius.
