Why do modern touch screen devices require antibacterial protection?
April 14, 2025
In the fields of healthcare, education, and public facilities, touch screens are becoming a potential medium for bacterial transmission, resulting in high demand for antibacterial properties in many public facilities. The R&D team of Xinlilai Optoelectronics has discovered that there may be hundreds of bacteria per square centimeter on the surface of ordinary touch screens, which has prompted us to develop professional antibacterial solutions.
Silver ion antibacterial technology is one of our most mature processes. By incorporating nano silver particles into the coating on the glass surface, antibacterial components can be continuously released. The magic of this technology is that it does not require additional activation, and the friction during daily use will promote the release of silver ions. After adopting this process, the surface bacterial count of the medical touch screens customized for a tertiary hospital was reduced by 98%, truly achieving a "self-cleaning" effect.
Another innovation is the photocatalytic antibacterial coating. This coating undergoes catalytic reactions under light conditions, which not only kill bacteria but also decompose organic pollutants. Especially suitable for use on touch screens devices in public places such as airports and stations. Our tests show that under simulated sunlight exposure, the antibacterial effect of this coating can last for more than three years.
It is worth noting that these antibacterial processes will not affect touch sensitivity of touch screens at all. We use special surface treatment techniques to ensure perfect compatibility between the antibacterial layer and the touch sensor. After 2 million touch tests, the antibacterial performance still remains above 95% of the initial level.
